Making New Friends

On the first weekend of March, 2011, Mom was waiting outside the bishop's office at church to recieve more instruction on her new calling at the temple.  Sitting in the hall with her was a little boy waiting for his baptism interview.  They struck up a conversation and became fast friends with her promising to attend his baptism the following Saturday.  Saturday came and she bought a little flashlight to give him as a gift to demonstrate the gift of the Holy Ghost and how he was to become a light to everyone else through his example.  His parents were flabbergasted that their son knew the "new lady" in the ward and had befriended her on his own.  Grandma seems to fit very well into her new ward because it is such a mix of oldsters and youngsters.  She also has a calling from the bishop to fellowship a semi-active family that is going through a hard time due to the father losing his job.  She had connected with the newly called deacon in that family within the few months of moving in.  Grandma has an inate talent for seeking out the people who need succor and love and then giving it to them.  We are all excited that the bishopric and the stake presidency know her and have been close enough to the spirit to recognize the talents that she has and are putting her to work.  At the time that they set her apart, she received the most beautiful blessing from the stake presidency along with a hug and promise that she would be able to fulfill her assignments without pain.  I love that they are challenging her to extend herself to the best extent that she can.

Heart to heart talks with Grandma!

The great grandkids love having their grandma Black around.  They are thrilled to have 3 grandmas!  Here is Tyson Olsen from Christmas chatting it up with Grandma Black.  She kept talking to him about how Tyson and Grandpa Black were just hanging out and best buds before he came to us.  It is so neat to think about how that is true.  Tyson just loved babling to her about it.
